This charming 1926 6 cylinder Rugby Type R Sedan has had only 3 female owners from new, it has covered a genuine 64,000 miles! The Rugby was sold new by Duncan Motors in Adelaide to Mrs Elizabeth Keisling from St Peters 13/11/1926,(the original purchase receipt accompanies the car), following her death in 1933 the car was transferred to her daughter in-law who was also named Elizabeth Keisling! The last owner purchased the Rugby in 1969, amazingly her name was also Elizabeth! The high quality restoration was completed in 1979 ready for the International rally to New Zealand in 1980,(about 1200 miles) it ran faultlessly, The Rugby has also been a finalist in 3 Bay to Birdwood rallys.The dark green paintwork, trim, nickel plating, engine compartment and wheels and tyres all present beautifully, it runs and drives very well. The Rugby Type R has a 6 cylinder side valve engine 169.3 ci with about 40hp, and a centre change 3 speed manual transmission. Rugby cars were built by the Durant Motor Company. William Durant was the founder of General Motors in 1908, his involvement ceased in 1920, in 1921 he formed the Durant Motor Company ,it remained in business until 1935.This car is complete with all its original features including, Smith Lens headlights, Tillotson carburettor, vacuum tank and luggage box, also has all its instruction manuals and original tools!A lovely correct and original car with an amazing history,restored and on the button, excellent value.
